Pinocchio is the character invented in 1883 by Carlo Lorenzini, born in the center of Florence. The nickname Collodi was used by him in honor of the village where he spent his summer holidays at his grandparents' farm.
Pinocchio is by far the most famous puppet in the world. His book written by Collodi is the second most translated book in the world after the Bible! Collodi's real name was Carlo Lorenzini, a very famous name in Florence, like all those that end in "-ini" and contain the name "Lorenzo", derived from Lorenzo the Magnificent, the great patron of the Florentine Renaissance. He chose the name Collodi because it was the small village in the province of Pisa where his grandparents lived, and where he used to spend the summer with his relatives, and to which he was very attached. In Collodi you can find the "Parco di Pinocchio", recently established, it is a must-see for all Tuscans, although if you are only on vacation for a few days it may not be recommended. The book was titled "The Adventures of Pinocchio - Story of a Puppet," and it was a collection of the serialized story that Collodi wrote for the first children's magazine born in Florence that year, the "Giornale per Bambini". It was supposed to be just a few short stories, but the love of young Florentines for this very unique character pushed the writer to continue the story until its very sweet ending. The collection was therefore completed in 1883, and published in several editions. The most curious thing is that Collodi never registered the copyright for his book, so that his novel could be read by all the children of the world without limits, and also to pay homage to his dear village Collodi, making it famous around the world. This is why there are so many different versions of Pinocchio, both in terms of illustrations and story, and why all over the world it is claimed to be "born here." In the 1940s, Disney allowed people to get to know it more deeply thanks to its animated film "The Adventures of Pinocchio," which was slightly inspired by the original story.
The entire story of Pinocchio is inspired by real places in the province of Florence, and some of them still exist today. The place where you can find them all, thanks also to the marble plaques created by the municipality, is the town of Sesto Fiorentino: here there were Geppetto's carpentry shop, Pinocchio's school, the great Oak, the tavern in front of the Ginori factory, and the beautiful Fairy's House still exists. Then there are Campi Bisenzio, Peretola and Colonnata, and the Island of the Industrious Bees. Imagine that the Land of Toys was nothing but the Fair of Sesto Fiorentino, which could be reached by mule-drawn carriages from all over the province... Let yourself be fascinated by the reality of Pinocchio's fairy tale! Here is the link for all the places of Pinocchio > and for more curiosities about the origins of Pinocchio >

In our Florence shop you will find two collections that we have dedicated to Pinocchio. Both strictly handcrafted and totally Made in Florence: "Pinocchio goes to Florence" and "Antique Pinocchio".

The series is called "Pinocchio goes to Florence" and is made up of very tender images of the mischievous teenage puppet who lives and strolls through the streets and monuments of Florence and the Tuscan countryside, with views of the most famous places in his city: Pinocchio flies in a hot air balloon over a striking view of the Florence Cathedral, fishes in the Arno river in front of the Ponte Vecchio, strolls through the market in Piazza Santa Maria del Fiore in front of the Cathedral, plays in Piazza Santa Croce, enjoys the sun on the Tuscan hills, discovers reading in the country villages.
The images were conceived by us and created by our Italian artist Denise de Giorgis in the fine style of watercolor and ink.
With this series we have created several items, all absolutely Made-in-Italy or rather, Made-in-Florence.
54 plastic-coated playing cards die-cut in our workshop, in original wooden box.
All 14 different designs of Pinocchio in the squares and most famous places of Florence and in romantic glimpses of the Tuscan hills. The Joker is a funny Talking Cricket in jacket and top hat.
All different specimens and rich in detail, an unmissable collector's item for lovers of cards and Pinocchio.
° Rigid photo holder with 30 pages with tissue paper, spine, and original medieval-style leather binding.
° Drawing Album with hard cover, spine, and leather details, with a compartment to insert a drawing pad or freehand sketchbook.
The figures are printed on lined paper with ecological, resistant, and UV-resistant inks.
° The Bauletti are wooden containers built by us and hand-polished with a shellac and wax patina that gives them a magical charm with an antique flavor.
° The Music-box Jewelry Box large is the same type of box, with internal compartments and a spring music box with the melody "Greenleaves".
° The Small Music-box has the manual mechanism of the romantic notes of "Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss.

Another beautiful series is "Ancient Pinocchio" inspired by the 1950s novellas, with the traditional puppet in an orange paper outfit and a hat made of bread crumb, accompanied by his famous Abecedary or by his father Geppetto.

The little theater is entirely made of hand-pierced wood, with natural prints reminiscent of the antique style.
It reproduces the carpentry of Geppetto with Pinocchio: the old carpenter works the piece of wood with so much love and passion that he brings it to life.
It is an excellent three-dimensional decorative element, for the table, or, thanks to the slot on the back, hung on the wall like a small painting, fascinating and moving.
The clocks recreate the first page of the original story of "The Adventures of Pinocchio," or the full-figure puppet.
The sentences from the story are made in a wavy design to recreate the effect of open pages.Pinocchio is depicted in different positions, in two wall versions and one table version, always with his indispensable Abecedario.
Such a precious object that giving and receiving it will be a source of great emotion, both for adults and children.
