eyJpdCI6IiJ9

When you have little time and only a few days available, it can be difficult to decide what to see and do in a city like Florence! It's small, but it hides priceless treasures that you absolutely must not miss in every little street! On this blog, we give you advice on what, in our opinion as Florentines, you can't miss during a visit to Florence on a holiday or a trip: from the most beautiful and famous museums to the enchanting places you absolutely have to see!

FLORENCE IN 1 DAY - FIRST DAY

Do you really have little time? The wonder of Florence can also be enjoyed from the streets! If there are no works or artists you absolutely want to see, the tour we recommend avoids wasting time in lines and avoids too many museums, each of which requires 1 or 2 hours to visit. Dedicate yourself to experiencing the city, discovering its most beautiful views. Start from the Central Station SMN and in 2 minutes you can reach the first stop:

  • Church of Santa Maria Novella: it also gives its name to the Central Station, it's beautiful to visit inside as well, but just a glance from the outside is enough to fill your heart.
  • Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore and Baptistery: the most beautiful and important work in Florence, more beautiful outside than inside, since all the artistic pieces have been moved to the Duomo Museum. If you have time, the fun (and tiring!) part is visiting Brunelleschi's dome, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view over the city's rooftops. The Baptistery is also worth a visit, definitely more relaxing and quicker.
  • Galleria dell'Accademia: built specifically to house Michelangelo's David, it is full of wonderful oil paintings and beautiful marble statues. The first museum that absolutely deserves a visit.
  • Piazza della Signoria: Palazzo Vecchio, Loggia de' Lanzi and the "Il Vecchione" Fountain, all in one glance. Lose yourself among the sculptures of the Loggia, and don't miss the "face of Michelangelo" carved on the right side of the Palazzo wall!
  • Uffizi inner street: if you don't have time to visit the inside, which takes a couple of hours, take a few minutes to pay homage to the Greats of Florence immortalized in the statues of the supporting columns; beautiful sculptures of the most famous artists and writers, from Dante to Michelangelo, from Petrarch to Da Vinci. There are also street painters, very talented and picturesque!
  • Ponte Vecchio: unique and characteristic, with its stilts now 200 years old, and with the most beautiful and vintage wooden shutters in the whole city, you won't be able to help falling in love with its sparkling shop windows!
  • Piazza di Santa Croce and Church: under Dante's stern gaze, the best way to end the tour, especially for an aperitif! The church inside is fascinating and full of epitaphs to famous people from the past, if you have half an hour left it's worth a look!

Where to eat

THE BEST DISHES OF FLORENCE

Traditional cuisine trattoria "Da Garibardi":

Typical Tuscan dishes cooked with love and care for over 20 years. One of the best trattorias where you can eat Bistecca alla Fiorentina, Trippa, Ribollita, and Crostini Fegatini, cooked and served by real Florentine hands. You can find it right in the center of Florence, at Piazza del Mercato Centrale 38, in the San Lorenzo district near the Duomo, just a stone's throw from our shop!

FLORENCE IN 2 DAYS - SECOND DAY

Well, since we have an extra day, we can treat ourselves to even more beauties: discover the must-see places in Florence in 2 days:

  • Inside the Palazzo Vecchio: its frescoes, its ceilings, and even its floors remain in the eyes of anyone who has visited; the guided tours led by actors playing famous historical characters, who speak in Florentine (don't worry, it's not a dialect, it's easy to understand!) and tell you about the Palace in a Renaissance role-playing game, are a lot of fun!
  • Enjoy a relaxing walk through the typical small streets of Florence: the Lungarni offer wonderful views, especially the Lungarno Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici!
  • Inside the Basilica of Santa Croce: the largest Franciscan church in the world, considered the pantheon of Florence, houses almost 300 tombs, including those of Michelangelo, Galileo, and Machiavelli. A marvel to discover for the most nostalgic souls.
  • Inside the Church of Orsanmichele: Florence's granary that became a church when the statue of the Madonna wept blood, is rich in artistic treasures including the Tabernacle of Orcagna and the statues of the patron saints of the Florentine Guilds.

Where to sleep

THE BEAUTIES OF THE FLORENTINE APARTMENT

Typical apartment "Ristori Apartment":

The marvel of ancient Florentine palaces, the finely restored stone walls, the ceilings with exposed beams from the past. And all the hospitality of a true Florentine woman who will explain to you the places, museums, and curiosities of Florence not to be missed!

  • 2 Double Bedrooms
  • Fully equipped modern kitchen
  • Bed linen and towels
  • View of Palazzo Vecchio

FLORENCE IN 3 DAYS - THIRD DAY

Now yes, you can visit the Uffizi. Only if you stay at least 3 days. Why? Because the line to get in can last even an hour, and inside, 2 hours are not enough to enjoy everything. And once you leave, you will be exhausted!

  • Inside the Uffizi Gallery: the art of the 14th century and the Renaissance is enclosed here, within the walls of one of the most famous museums in the world for its fine collections of paintings and ancient statues. You will remember it for your whole life.
  • Boboli Gardens: now that you are really tired, grit your teeth for a couple more streets, and go enjoy the most beautiful gardens in all of Florence, 500 years old, lived in by Grand Dukes and Kings!
  • If you still have time and energy, we suggest the last wonder: Florentine craftsmanship! Wood, leather, jewelry, ceramics, antiques... Even craftsmanship is art in Florence!

The Gelato

Artisanal Gelateria "Perché no?":

Among the Historic Florentine Establishments, exhibited and exported to the MoMA in New York, this gelateria has made the history of Florentine gelato since 1939! At via dei Tavolini 19, only fresh and top-quality ingredients: only eggs, milk, cream, sugar combined with seasonal fruit, chocolate, dried fruit, spices, and many other genuine top-choice products. You will never taste gelato like this again, word of Florentines!

FLORENCE IN 5 DAYS - FOURTH AND FIFTH DAY

If you have 5 days, take a little more time to visit all the wonders we've already listed, maybe spread them out over 4 days, so you'll be able to enjoy them much more! For the fifth day, I suggest:

  • Duomo Museum: all the works of Santa Maria del Fiore have been transferred here, an interesting and comprehensive museum where you can see the wonders of centuries of history.
  • Medici Chapels: you can see the New Sacristy, whose sculptures were designed and conceived by Michelangelo, and the Crypts, burial places of the Medici Grand Dukes and Cosimo the Elder.
  • Bargello Museum: an art museum of Renaissance works, including sculptures by Michelangelo
  • And finally the View from Piazzale Michelangelo: by day or by night, romantic and fascinating, with the beautiful view of all the red roofs of Florence, where, you will notice, no roof is higher than the Duomo, and all the roofs are of the same type: this is thanks to the laws of Florence's mayors over the last 300 years!
  • If it's a nice day you can treat yourself to a bit of rest at the Rose Garden and the Iris Garden below: the iris is the symbol flower of Florence, and seeing the beauty and variety of these flowers you can understand why it was chosen more than a thousand years ago as the representative of this beautiful city!

Where to drink in the evening

THE PUB AND THE BAR

From "Eby's":

For lovers of Shots and improbable, never-before-seen Cocktails, this is a must-stop! Right in the nightlife center of Florence, on via dell'Oriuolo 5, under the famous Arco di San Pierino, with seating inside and out... but the owner's excitement and enthusiastic shouts will fill you with so much happiness that you won't be able to stay seated! A must try!

  • Burritos, Empanadas and Quesadillas

Florence Tourism
Florence is among the most famous cities in the world, whether to live in, to study in, or to visit on vacation or as a tourist. It is a small, human-scale city, perfect for getting around on foot, by bicycle, or by bus. More than small, we could say it is "concentrated": it has everything, in just a few square kilometers. In the historic center alone, you can find high fashion shops, second-hand clothing stores, restoration workshops, stationery stores, hardware stores, art studios, luthier shops, and hidden wonders in every corner. It hosts the wealthiest and most famous schools of Arts, Music, and Languages, as well as renowned free universities, which makes the city even more fascinating.

Tourists by Chance

For those used to large, new, and modern cities where tall skyscrapers soar, Florence might almost seem like a small amusement park, purpose-built to simulate the ancient streets of the Renaissance. A pearl of rare beauty and full of little wonders, hidden details in every small street. Walking through Florence should be done with attentive eyes everywhere: walls, roofs, balconies, even the street bricks called "sanpietrini," the beautiful wrought iron street lamps, and even the decorated trash bins.

What to Do in Florence in a Few Days

Tourists on vacation or traveling in Florence? Even Florentines themselves often remain tourists for life. Every time I walk through my historic center, I discover little details I had never noticed before. On this blog, I list what I, as a Florentine, and the people I know, love most about Florence, the best places to see and the most beautiful things to do during a vacation, a short trip, or a quick visit. All the places, churches, and museums we would never want to miss if we had only a few days in this beautiful city. If we had only one day, it would really be a shame: you can just barely taste the wonder, history, and tradition of this city, but you certainly never forget it. Of course, there are so many things to see and do, a lifetime is not enough to enjoy them all. With a few more days, 2 or 3, you can already appreciate the details much better, you can immerse yourself in the art and spirit of the city. From the 5th day on, we can finally start to feel satisfied with what we've managed to see, among museums, churches, and art corners... or maybe it's right now that we realize how many other things there are to do that we won't be able to see. And we'll just want to come back for another trip.
